Tasmania has earned a reputation as New Zealand's little sister for good reason. Whether hiking along the coast or through epic mountain landscapes, Tasmania has pretty much everything to offer. If you're currently planning a trip there, don't forget to check out the following hikes.

The hike to the top of Mt Amos starts in Freycinet National Park and will bring you to one of Tasmanias most epic photo spots. The breathtaking view of Coles and Wineglass Bay makes it particularly popular with day visitors, since its only a 2 hour drive from Hobart. However, at sunrise you have the chance to get the spot all to yourself. Remember that Freycinet National Park requires a valid NP pass, which you should buy in advance online or at the tourist information centre. Click here for more information.
Note: This hike is absolutely not recommended in bad weather. The rocks are extremely slippery and the risk of injury is high, as you will be climbing rather than hiking, so this should not be underestimated.
CRADLE MOUNTAIN SUMMIT

Trailhead:
Cradle Mountain National Park is probably one of the most popular hiking areas in Tasmania, and not without reason. Trekking tours such as the Overland Track lead right through the heart of the park. If you don't have much time, but still want to get a glimpse of the beautiful landscapes, I can recommend the hike to Cradle Mountain. Despite the relatively low elevation gain, it should not be underestimated and you should plan a whole day to fully enjoy the tour. There are various routes that all lead up to the summit, although I personally decided to start at Dove Lake. From here, the route continues along Wombat Pool to Marion Lookout, along Kitchen Hut and up to the peak. Make sure the weather is favourable, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy the fantastic views and might get stuck in a thick wall of clouds. But don't worry, you'll be able to judge the view well by the time you reach the Kitchen Hut. From there, it's around 1-1.5 hours, depending on your fitness level.
Please note that you will only be allowed to drive into the park by private car outside of the shuttle times, so if you arrive late, you will have no choice but to take the bus.
A quick tip: If you make your way back via the Ronny Creek Carpark, you've increased your chances of seeing wild wombats. And who doesn't want to see the little Australian bears in real life?

The Dove Lake loop is an easy day hike that can be combined with a short visit to Cradle Mountain National Park. The loop can be done by visitors of all ages or fitness levels. Walking clockwise, it offers magnificent views of the mountains in the park, especially Cradle Mountain. For the exact shuttle times and park entrance fees, check out the official NP website here.
